Himalayan Balsam Bashing: July

This summer we are running some extra Friends of Chevin Forest volunteer led task days (to complement the work we do with Leeds City Council on our Ranger led task days).

Sunday 30th June 10 am – 1 pm: Meet at Lower Shawfield Car Park
Saturday 13th July 10 am – 1 pm: Meet at Lower Shawfield Car Park

During these sessions we’ll be tackling the Himalayan Balsam growing across the site. Himalayan Balsam is an invasive species that grows quickly and shades out other ground vegetation; by removing the plant each year, we hope to stop it spreading further across the site.

If you’d like to familiarise yourself with the plant before coming along, there’s a good identification sheet at this link, but we will also show you on the day.

Everyone is welcome to join us but under 16s should be accompanied by an adult. Please bring your own gardening gloves if you have them but we will also have some spare pairs for people to use.

Bring plenty of water to drink as it may be hot! You are welcome to stay just for part of the session, or to leave to refuel and come back!
